Every year, the SSS Financial Aid Conference aims to reach out to an organization that is supporting students in achieving their educational goals against all odds of success. This year, join us in supporting the Monarch Schools in their efforts to foster achievement for San Diego’s homeless children.

Since 1987, Monarch School has been dedicated to helping San Diego’s homeless students break the cycle of poverty through education. Serving more than 300 students in a K-12 public school setting, Monarch’s mission is to educate students impacted by homelessness and help them develop hope for a future with the necessary skills and experience for personal success.

Monarch’s students live in shelters, motels, doubled- or tripled-up with other families in small apartments, in parks, cars, or on the streets. Students experiencing homelessness have often been absent from school for long periods of time and are achieving below grade level when they enroll. The typical student arrives at Monarch three years behind grade level, yet he or she progresses one full year academically for every six months spent at Monarch.

Please help Monarch serve San Diego’s homeless children by making donations of clothing, shoes, full-size toiletries, or school supplies like binders, spiral notebooks, pens, and pencils. You can donate these items in advance by sending them to NAIS, Attention: Patricia Hayden, 1129 20th Street, NW Suite 800, Washington, DC 20036 by October 16th. Or, bring your donation to the conference and drop them off at the Monarch School table in the Conference Center Lobby by November 4.
